1 day after pleading guilty to third DUI, California man killed by drunk driver, police say

DANA POINT, Calif. (AP) — An Orange County man recently released from rehab after three drunken driving convictions died when authorities say a 19-year-old man who had been drinking struck him, a newspaper reported. Haitham Gamal, 38, was bicycling in Dana Point when a 2001 Acura hit him on April 29, the Orange County Register reported Friday. Gamal was pronounced dead at the scene. The crash occurred a day after Gamal pleaded guilty to a January 2013 DUI in Orange County ... Read More »

Dad charged with DUI in son’s death reflects national trend

Under the proposal, sponsored by Sens. Steve King, R-Grand Junction, and Mike Johnston, D-Denver, anyone who gets a third DUI in a seven-year span or is charged with a fourth DUI would be charged with a class 4 felony. That charge carries a sentence ... Read More »

Sober driver arrested for OWI when deputy crashes into her car

MILWAUKEE (WITI) — Tanya Weyker was hurt so badly, she couldn’t blow into a breath-testing device or perform field sobriety tests.  But a Sheriff’s deputy arrested her for drunk driving anyway.  And the County hung those charges over her head for nearly a year, even long after blood tests proved she was perfectly sober. Tanya Weyker remembers it clearly. Not just the crash that broke her neck in four places, but the false accusations that followed. Read More »
