Cinco de Mayo weekend DUI task force reports fewer arrests

Arizona law-enforcement agencies over the Cinco de Mayo weekend made fewer impaired-driving arrests but stopped more motorists than they did during the same period in 2013. Police made 500 arrests on suspicion of driving under the influence out of more than 11,000 traffic stops from Thursday through Monday, according to the Governor’s Office of Highway Safety. Measure to create felony DUI in Colorado rejected by Senate Democrats

Denver, CO – The Denver Post Democrats in a state Senate committee on Tuesday quashed a bipartisan proposal to make repeat DUI offenses a felony in Colorado — a move that angered some lawmakers and victim-rights advocates. Under the proposal, sponsored by Sens. Steve King, R-Grand Junction, and Mike Johnston, D-Denver, anyone who gets a third DUI in a seven-year span or is charged with a fourth DUI would be charged with a class 4 felony. Sober driver arrested for OWI when deputy crashes into her car

MILWAUKEE (WITI) — Tanya Weyker was hurt so badly, she couldn’t blow into a breath-testing device or perform field sobriety tests.  But a Sheriff’s deputy arrested her for drunk driving anyway.  And the County hung those charges over her head for nearly a year, even long after blood tests proved she was perfectly sober. Corrections officer facing DUI, child neglect charges

PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. – A Treasure Coast correctional officer is accused of driving drunk with his two young kids in the car.  Douglas Schultz was pulled over in Port St. Lucie on Monday after he yelled at a police officer from his car. An officer reports that the two children inside Schultz’s car appeared frightened. Schultz is charged with child neglect and driving under the influence. Applebee’s Cleared in Deadly New Mexico DUI Crash

SANTA FE, N.M. (AP) – A federal jury has decided an Applebee’s restaurant in New Mexico broke no laws when it served a man whose drunken-driving crash killed two young women. The Albuquerque Journal reports (http://goo.gl/KX8c94) the jury returned its verdict Wednesday. It says the Santa Fe restaurant didn’t violate the state Liquor Control Act when it served James Ruiz and his friend Gilbert Mendoza in 2010. Read More »

Ocala mom arrested for DUI crash with 2-year-old autistic child in lap, 6-year old in back

OCALA —  A 28-year-old Marion County woman has been charged with DUI and child neglect after crashing into a tree with her two young children inside her car, including an autistic 2-year-old boy who was sitting on her lap. Suspect says she has no memory of fatal wrong-way crash

Coral Springs, FL – Sun Sentinel A woman accused of drunken driving in a wrong-way crash that killed two 21-year-old friends from Coral Springs says she has no recollection of the accident. Office Depot executive arrested in DUI

BOCA RATON — The recently named chief financial officer of Office Depot was arrested late Saturday on a DUI charge. A Boca Raton police officer pulled over Stephen E. Hare, 60, after spotting his Audi going 57 mph in a 35 mph zone at 11:33 p.m. Hare struggled to complete a field sobriety test, and breath tests showed his blood alcohol content was 0.180 and 0.186, more than twice the legal limit of 0.08.
