California lawmaker, aide sued in fatal DUI case

SANTA BARBARA, Calif. —  The parents of a Santa Barbara woman who was fatally struck by a congresswoman’s aide filed a federal lawsuit against the driver, U.S. Rep. Lois Capps and the U.S. government. The wrongful death suit filed by Matt and Raeona Dies’ attorney claims the Democratic congresswoman hired the aide despite being aware of his two DUI convictions and failed to monitor him, KEYT-TV reported Saturday. Breath Tests Get Support In DUI Wars

TALLAHASSEE (CBSMiami/NSF) — Judges may have another way to help repeat DUI offenders sober up for good. Instead of blowing into a machine which keep their cars from starting, they may have to get their breath tested twice a day. The proposal, approved by a House committee last week, would allow judges to place repeat DUI offenders into a new program, known elsewhere as “24/7 Sobriety,” instead of having ignition interlock devices installed on their vehicles. Bellevue cop fired for mishandling colleague’s alleged DUI

Bellevue, WA – The Seattle Times A Bellevue police officer who did not cite a colleague for drunken driving, conduct field sobriety tests or make an effort to obtain the officer’s blood-alcohol level before letting him leave with his wife, has been fired. Officer Doug Brennan, who has been on administrative leave since February, was  fired Wednesday. Chief Linda Pillo found that Brennan had violated department ethics, arrest and false-information policies when handling the Nov. 20 incident. Read More »

Wrong Way Driver Charged With DUI

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Officers used spike strips to stop a wrong way driver and arrest her on DUI charges overnight. Around 1:30 a.m. Thursday, officers spotted Jacqueline Connor driving southbound in the northbound lanes of Briley Parkway near County Hospital Road. She was reportedly driving at a high rate of speed and refused to stop when officers tried to pull her over. Read More »

Bartender on trial for fatal DUI wreck

Helena, MT – Independent Record A jury deliberated for more than two hours without coming to a verdict Tuesday in the trial of a Helena bartender accused of over-serving alcohol to a woman who later killed two people in a drunk driving crash. Serial DUI Offender Pleads Guilty In Death Of Chester County Man, Victim’s Family Speaks Out

WEST CHESTER, Pa. (CBS) — A Chester County man pleaded guilty Monday to a DUI crash that took the life of a 24-year-old man. He’ll face 8-17 years when he is sentenced in May. 18 years after deadly DUI crash, man arrested again

JAMESTOWN, R.I. (WPRI) –Almost two decades after a Richmond man was sentenced for killing a 68-year-old woman while driving under the influence, he was arrested again on DUI charges. Police arrested Lawrence Brew, 54, of Richmond for driving while intoxicated and refusing to submit a chemical test last Tuesday. Kodak man killed, 2 injured in DUI crash

KODAK (WATE) – Drugs and alcohol are to blame for a deadly crash that claimed the life of a Kodak man and injured two others in Sevier County on Sunday. The Tennessee Highway Patrol says the accident happened just after 5 p.m. on the 3600 block of Hickman Road in Kodak. Troopers say 29-year-old Thomas Oitting, of Kodak, was driving southbound when he crossed the center line and hit a Mitsubishi Eclipse head-on. Read More »
