CHARLESTON, SC (WCIV) — Charleston Police have charged a man with driving under the influence of alcohol after a vehicle police say he was driving wound up in Colonial Lake on Halloween night.
Cristian Abreu-Hidalgo, 21, of Charleston, is charged with DUI, first offense, following the incident Thursday around 11:30 p.m. at the corner of Queen Street at Rutledge Avenue.
Police say they found Abreu-Hidalgo along the bank of Colonial Lake, with a white sedan partially submerged in the water about 20 feet from shore.
According to officers, Abreu-Hidalgo said he’d been coming home from The Alley, a sports bar on Columbus Street in Charleston, but wasn’t driving the vehicle and hadn’t been drinking.
