SCHERERVILLE — A Lake County sheriff’s officer was arrested early Tuesday on a drunken driving charge after an off-duty crash that heavily damaged his vehicle and a parked car, Indiana State Police said.
Sgt. Joseph Hardiman, 34, told Indiana State Police he attempted to avoid a deer that ran out in front of his 2009 Ford van before the crash, according to a news release.
State police were dispatched to the crash about 3 a.m. in the 5400 block of 75th Avenue, after Schererville police requested they conduct an independent operating while intoxicated investigation, the release said.
