A former Modesto police sergeant was arrested Friday on charges of DUI. Rick Applegate, 40, was taken into custody as he pulled into the driveway of a home in Hughson, the Stanislaus County Sheriff’s Department said Tuesday. A witness called the sheriff’s department after seeing a man who appeared to be intoxicated leave a restaurant, get into a vehicle and drive away. The sheriff’s department said a deputy found the vehicle on 7th Street and caught up with the driver as he parked outside the home on Thomas Taylor Drive. Applegate, after failing field sobriety tests, was arrested on charges of driving under the influence, the sheriff’s department said.
