Police: Drunk man in Johns Creek court on probation violation flees authorities, faces DUI charge

Atlanta, GA

A man facing more than a month in jail for violating his probation now faces more time behind bars because authorities say he was drunk when he ran out of a Johns Creek courtroom and led police on a chase Tuesday morning.

James Earl Johnson, 44, was given probation after a conviction on DUI and driving without a license charges last year, according to Channel 2 Action News. But he owed more than $2,000 in fines and hadn’t paid them, so a Johns Creek judge sentenced him to 63 days in jail. After the sentence was announced, witnesses say Johnson ran out of the courtroom, jumped into a car and drove off, according to Channel 2.
