$275K bail set for motorist charged with reckless homicide, DUI

A judge Monday set bail at $275,000 for a Logan Square man charged with reckless homicide and aggravated DUI after he ran a light and struck a postal truck, killing a passenger in his Jeep, prosecutors said.

Jimmy Payton, 27, was behind the wheel of a Jeep Cherokee in the 3800 block of West Congress Parkway around 3:20 a.m. Saturday when he failed to stop at a red light and collided with the truck being driven by a 55-year-old postal worker, police said.

The front seat passenger in Payton’s Jeep, 32-year-old Sydni Murray, died at the scene as a result of injuries from the crash, according to Cook County Assistant State’s Attorney Jamie Santini.
