CHP: Sacramento driver charged with DUI in deadly crash

A Sacramento man was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol after he crashed his vehicle, killing his passenger early Monday morning, the California Highway Patrol said.

The single-vehicle crash happened just before 2 a.m. near Sunrise and Fair Oaks boulevards when the Toyota Corolla slammed into a concrete wall, officers said.

When first responders arrived at the crash scene, both the driver and the passenger were conscious and breathing, but both needed to be extricated from the Toyota, according to the CHP.

Once the passenger was pulled out of the car, he died soon after. There is no word on what injuries he suffered. He was only identified as a 22-year-old from Sacramento, officers said.
