DUI Arrests May Increase During Upcoming Summer Months

With summer approaching, many families and groups of friends have already begun planning their vacations. Because Southern California offers some of the best warm weather and sunny sky conditions, it is fair to say that many individuals will be spending time near the beaches, lakes, and pools. Of course, many groups of friends and family will do so while enjoying some tasty, alcoholic beverages. While summer vacation can be enjoyable and worry-free, this time of year can also be one of the most dangerous if drunk drivers and beach-goers choose to get behind the wheel while intoxicated.

According to an article titled, “The Most Dangerous Times on the Road,” nine of the 10 deadliest days for the youth on United States’ highways falls between May and August. In addition, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration states that twice the amount of car accident deaths occur during the summer months than during the rest of the year combined. Many believe this is due to the high volume of travelers and the high number of alcohol-impaired drivers on the road during the summer months and summer holidays such as Cinco de Mayo.

Law Enforcement Officers Will Be on the Lookout

Because the warmer months are approaching, and holidays like Cinco de Mayo are nearly here, it is expected that law enforcement officers will be on the close lookout for alcohol-impaired drivers. As a result, persons who consume any amount of alcohol should refrain from getting behind the wheel, even if they feel as though they are not impaired. Because law enforcement officers will be working diligently to keep the roads safe, some may become overly zealous and arrest those who are not actually impaired while driving.
